Murray Family - Robert and Mabel (Second generation)

James and Agnes fifth child, Robert was born on 23 Dec 1877 (b.1878/3280). In 1913 Robert is running his chaffcutting business.

It was not until the 22 Dec 1914 Robert, aged 37,  Robert married Mabel Mary Wylie (1885-1965) (m.1914/5010). Mabel was living at Port Molyneux in 1911 - 1914 with her brother Andrew Mitchell Wylie.

In 1917 age 40 Robert is listed on the New Zealand Army WWI Reserve Rolls, Chaffcutter Owner, Waikaka.

This might be our Mrs Murray a member of the Countess of Liverpool League, involved in a gift sale raising money for Christmas parcels to send to troops at the front.

Robert and Mabel had three? children.

John Cameron was born in 9 April 1916 (b.1916/4483). John's occupation in 1938 was a chaffcutter maybe working for his father. John married Winifred "Winnie" Mary (b. 22 Nov 1918) sometime before June 1943 when John was call up to serve with the army. Reg. No. 49496 Gunner 2nd Division Artillery. In 1957 they are living in Tapanui, Robert is a seed cleaner. In 1978 John is a store proprietor living in Tapanui. John died in 1995 aged 79 (d.1995/37548). His wife Winifred died in 2015 aged 97 (d.2015/30371). Winifred is buried at the Tapanui cemetery.

Twins? Mary (Molly) McKay was born on the 9 April in Tapanui (b.1916/4484). In 1938, aged 22, Mary is living in Waikaka and is unmarried.  In 1944, Mary married Robert John Ballantyne. Robert is single, a labourer (25 years old) when he enlists in 1940 2nd NZEF 15752 N.Z. Infantry (b. 1915/22214). Robert died at the young age of 48, on the 15 July 1963. Mary died 28 years later aged 75 years on the 1 Dec 1991(d.1991/48313). They are buried together at the Gore cemetery.

Gordon Leslie was born in 27 September 1925 (b.1925/   ). N.Z. 441394, LAC, 2nd NZEF. From 1949 - 1957 Gordon operated a bus serve at Kaka Point, in 1972 Gordon was living at 55 Gordon Street, Balclutha. On the 20 September 2012 Gordon died aged 87 in Balclutha (d.2012/24911) he is buried with his parents at the Waikaka cemetery. Gordon had no children.

Robert died on the 22 March 1961 aged 83 (d.1961/32318) and Mabel died on the 25 Nov 1965 aged 80 (d.1965/34818). Robert and Mabel are buried together at the Waikaka cemetery.
